AFTER hiding without a real name and being on the run for nine years, a man was busted by police in Shenzhen on Tuesday, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
The suspect, identified as Pei, 47, was attempting to take a train back to his hometown in Hubei Province from Shenzhen North Railway Station on Tuesday, the Tomb-Sweeping Day.
Pei has been on the wanted list for his alleged involvement in trading guns and drugs. To escape from legal sanctions, Pei ran away from his hometown and concealed his real name.
The suspect thought that the police might have relaxed about his crimes and decided to take a chance.
The police at the railway station found that Pei was acting suspiciously with a panicked and nervous look. When asked about his destination, Pei said that he was going to board a train bound for Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province.
The man showed his ID card upon request and claimed to be a native of Guangdong Province. However, the police detected that the man had a strong Hubei accent.
Pei appeared to become more nervous as the police asked him more questions, so the police took him away and investigated his real identity. It was later uncovered that the man was a fugitive who had been charged with the crimes of dealing with guns and drugs.
The police later explained that Pei had been hiding from police for the past nine years. The suspect pleaded guilty and said that he felt relieved even though the cops had caught him, because he had suffered a lot from guilt and fear over the past decade.
