THE city’s housing security department is planning to adopt a face-recognition system in public rental housing to avoid subletting by tenants, according to sznews.com.
Shanghai has piloted a smart security system in a public rental housing estate to identify tenants and visitors with fingerprint locks and facial-recognition devices. Tenants stopped defaulting on paying rent and subletting after the new system was put into use.
According to the city’s housing security department, Shenzhen is also planning to set up a smart service system by using facial-recognition devices in public rental housing estates, which will increase the efficiency with which management offices can deal with emergency events and stop tenants from subletting, the report said.
The system will also be capable of registering the information of visitors and sending out intrusion alerts in cases of illegal entry, according to the report.
