From April 15 to 23, music shows performed by pop, rock and ballad bands will be staged every night at OCT Harbor, as part of Nanshan Pop Festival. Highlighted musicians include Soler (April 20), Hanggai (April 21) and Shunza (April 23). Ticketing information will be released later.
Soler is a Hong Kong-based rock duo originally from Macao formed by twin brothers Julio Acconci (vocals/bass) and Dino Acconci (vocals/guitar). Prior to their 2005 debut, they were an underground band that over the years developed a musical style that blended rock, soul and folk into one. Their music could best be described as folk rock with a bit of soul. Soler’s live performances have had electrifying effects on Hong Kong’s usually timid and reserved audiences.
Shunza is a singer-songwriter known for her jazz and ballad songs. Since her debut, Shunza has released numerous albums in Chinese, Japanese, English and French. In 1999, she was hailed as the Best Female Singer and Best Composer at the 10th Golden Melody Awards.
Hanggai Band is an Inner Mongolian music group who specialize in a blend of Mongolian folk music and more modern styles such as punk rock. Band member Ilchi once said among the group’s many influences, Western artists such as, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Secret Machines, Electralane and Neil Diamond have played a large role in shaping the band’s music. In each of their albums, the band has also made heavy use of electric guitars, bass and banjos in order to create a more seamless and modern sound.
