AN 80-year-old man, who had lost his way at the Xiangmihu Road section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, has been taken home by local traffic police officers, thanks to WeChat, it was reported yesterday.
Traffic police officers found the man Saturday night, but couldn’t communicate with him, according to local Chinese-language newspapers.
Xiangmihu Police Station posted a photo of the old man on its official WeChat account after they couldn’t get any useful clues from him.
A man, who claimed to be the old man’s son, came to the police station Sunday morning after seeing the photo circulating on WeChat, and took his father home.
The police station gave a yellow wrist band to the elderly man. The upgraded WeChat Wrist Band QR codes contain information about senior citizens and their families, which can be acquired by scanning with WeChat.
Police remind residents to attend to those with yellow wrist bands, who are alone in the street or on a corner, and to help them to get home. (Han Ximin)
