Cab death
A WOMAN waiting for a cab at Shenzhen East Railway Station was run over by a cab that lost control Monday.
According to the traffic police, the cab driver, surnamed Kong, 48, lost control of his car because he was driving too fast when entering the waiting area for cabs, and knocked down the woman.
The woman died at the scene and Kong was injured and taken to a hospital.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Prostitution dispute
A MAN surnamed Zeng was detained for patronizing a prostitute in Nanshan District on Saturday.
Zeng, 44, had an argument with the 17-year-old woman, identified as Li, over the prostitution fee. Li called police and claimed that she had been raped by Zeng at a hotel in Xili, Nanshan District. Li was reprimanded by police for prostitution.
Burglars caught
FIVE burglars were caught in Guangzhou by Longgang police for thefts in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan cities.
The five suspects dressed like marketing clerks to target upmarket residential quarters and knocked on doors between 3 and 5 p.m. to seek opportunities. If no one answered the door, the thieves would then open the door with tools.
A man surnamed Huang in Longgang District found that some imported wines and 3,300 yuan (US$478) cash had gone missing from his home March 23.
Dayuncheng Police Station in Longgang seized one suspect in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, on April 7 after a two-week investigation. The other were arrested Saturday when they returned from Hunan. Police also seized 20,000 yuan from the four suspects and seven brand name watches, gold rings and necklaces from their apartment.
The case is still under investigation.
Car parking
THE city’s road traffic center will add 331 parking spaces on 11 roads and cancel 159 spaces on 16 road sections, according to the recently unveiled adjustment plan.
Road renovation
RENOVATION of Yueliangwan Boulevard in Nanshan District will start this year to reduce noise pollution.
The boulevard, linking Beihuan Boulevard in the north and Chiwan port and Shekou container port in the south, is often swamped with trailers and trucks, and the noise reaches an average of 60 decibels, which disturbs nearby residents.
