SHENZHEN THz Manufacturing Innovation Center was put into operation Wednesday under the cooperation of China Communication Technology Co., Shenzhen Polytechnic and Shenzhen Thz Research Institute.

    The center is one of the 10 innovation centers that the city has decided to build in 2017. The 10 centers will cover strategic and newly emerged industries, including Thz, robotics, 3-D printing, precision medicine and graphene.

    THz technology is important for supporting the new generation information industry, national security and the development of basic science. It will bring revolutionary changes to communication, radar, electronic countermeasures and electromagnetic weapons.

    The products based on Thz technologies can be widely used in satellite communication and security checks.

    THz consists of electromagnetic waves within the ITU-designated band of frequencies from 0.3 to 3 terahertz. The transmitted THz beam is used for material characterization, layer inspection and developing transmission images.
