THE city is trying to start construction of Xili Railway Station before the end of the year, to correspond with the construction of the Shenzhen section of the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway.

    The 436-km high-speed rail line, with an estimated investment of 62 billion yuan (US$8.93 billion), will cut the trip from Shenzhen to Heyuan to 40 minutes when it is put into operation in 2020. The whole line will have 14 stations, and the trip to Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province will be cut to two hours.

    The rail line will form part of a longer proposed high-speed rail link to Nanchang, Jiangxi and will be connected with the Xiamen-Shenzhen rail line to allow access to coastal Fujian cities. (Richard Han)
