KAZAKH singer Dimash Kudaibergenov, a rising foreign star in China’s music circles, will soon be heard singing in a Chinese film. Born in Kazakhstan in 1994, he won several awards in his country. But Kudaibergenov became known to people in China only after participating in the Hunan Satellite TV reality show, “Singer 2017,” in January. In two months he has gathered more than 3.3 million fans on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter. The 22-year-old singer finished second in “Singer 2017” over the weekend, losing out to Sandy Lam of Hong Kong. Kudaibergen performed Michael Jackson’s songs “Earth Song” and “Dangerous” with Chinese pop singer Shang Wenje. The 22-year-old artist is now set to lend his incomparable vocal cords to Taiwan director Leste Chen’s upcoming science fiction film “Battle of Memories.” The movie, set in the year 2025 and starring Chinese actor Huang Bo, is scheduled for an April 28 premiere. In the movie, the protagonist accidently receives the memories of a serial killer, which ended up dragging him into a thrilling adventure. Despite possessing a threadbare command of the Mandarin language, Kudaibergenov is a prominent fixture in many concerts and galas in China. During a promotional event in Beijing, the Kazakh vocalist said he felt “very fortunate” for being able to participate in a Chinese movie. The song’s clip was launched on the Chinese Internet video platform Miaopai on March 31 and has since garnered over 2 million downloads. Many have given him the nickname of “the Kazakh Vitas” due to the similarities between his high-powered voice and that of Ukrainian techno singer Vitas. (SD-Agencies) |
