Shenzhen Second Foreign Languages School (SSFLS) will hold an open day on May 6. All of the school facilities will be open and star teachers will give classes for parents and students to experience. As the headmaster of SSFLS, Huang Haiqiang will also answer students’ questions in person.

    SSFLS aims to develop students’ ability to analyze and solve problems. Healthy both physically and mentally, these confident students have talent, profound knowledge and strong pioneering spirit. They know how to study effectively, how to take care of themselves and how to handle relationships with others.

    “Teachers are the backbone of a school,” said Huang. Teachers here are outstanding teachers that have been hired from all over the country, with rich experience and degrees from good universities.

    Teachers here compete with each other through the Problem Solving Competition. Besides, they also help students to solve problems every night, regardless of compensation, according to Huang.

    The public often focuses on those students who enter top universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University. SSFLS never neglects students who fall behind. “I am surprised that my son could get into a good college,” a man said at the graduation ceremony, adding he used to think it would be too difficult for his son to go to college.

    SSFLS is famous for its diverse educational structure in Shenzhen. SSFLS has eight schools focusing on individual subject areas like humanities, science, math, foreign languages, sports, arts and more. “This is really attractive to me,” said Grade 11 student Du Wenxin. “I can choose the subject that I am interested in.”

    SSFLS offers Japanese, French, German and Spanish elective classes. This year they plan to open Russian classes as well.

    Various activities, such as art festivals, science and technology festivals, foreign language festivals, sports festivals and school association festivals, provide platforms for students to show their talents and enhance their comprehensive qualities.

    SSFLS is directly under the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau. Covering an area of 119,000 square meters, SSFLS, which is a full-residence school, has 60 classes that can hold 3,000 students.

    All the facilities in the school are advanced. There are three modern student dormitories, with a laundry room, clinic, 24-hour security and a school doctor.
