Paintings by Luis Sei Fong and Maria Carolina Fontana from Uruguay are on display at Shenzhen Fine Art Institute.
The artists, invited by the institute for the Resident Artist Program, present their works created in their home country, as well as some made in Shenzhen.
The artists showcase colorful landscapes and vivid life scenes in Uruguay in their works. Fong, because of his half-Chinese ancestry, began to study Chinese ink painting in his childhood, so his landscape paintings have a strong traditional Chinese influence. In Fontana’s paintings, viewers can feel rich South American elements. The artists also present paintings depicting landscapes and life in Shenzhen, displaying the contrasts of the two cultures at the exhibition.
“In modern times, independence movements, multi-ethnic groups and slack social organization enable Latin American people to achieve self-awareness and spiritual independence, so they like to draw scenes of daily life. In addition, their inborn passion makes them likely to express feelings of individuality and emphasize personal thinking,” said curator Zhou Tianlang.
