LUISA BOCCHIETTO, president-elect of the World Design Organization, gave an interview to the media at Hilton, Shenzhen in Shekou on Thursday before the welcoming banquet of Shenzhen Design Week.

For Bocchietto, this is the second time that she has come to Shenzhen. Last November she came for a design fair. “I was greatly impressed because the city was very new and international. The fair last year was very interesting because I saw many products not only from China but also from other countries. I am very happy to come again, representing the World Design Organization,” she said.

Bocchietto thinks that Shenzhen Design Week is a good opportunity to meet people, exchange ideas and create opportunities for work in reality, as well as to create space for young people to present their ideas with less cost.

“Design is a tool to create things and products. Professionals, like designers and architects, are not only producing things and making money to survive, they are always trying to create a better world with their work. We need to think about the planet. We need to think about a better life for all the people,” said Bocchietto.

When asked why so many internationally famous designers have come to Shenzhen to build their studios, Bocchietto said that one of the reasons was that professional designers understand that there are a lot of manufacturers in Shenzhen.

“Also, the impression is that you are now at the same level compared with other parts of the world where people are producing design,” she said.
