Type 001A, China’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, docks at the Dalian shipyards in Liaoning Province yesterday. The scaffolding has come off, fresh paint has been applied and balloons have been hung at the bow of the ship. According to a China Central Television report, the ship is likely to be launched soon. China began building the aircraft carrier in 2014. The country’s first aircraft carrier, Liaoning, was bought from Ukraine in 1998 and rebuilt in China before being commissioned to the People’s Liberation Army Navy.China News Service
