SHENZHEN’S traffic police seized a total of 433 vehicles that were occupying sidewalks and greenways in an action yesterday.

A total of 128 other so-called zombie cars, which had long been left unattended in public areas, were towed away and 51 vehicles were impounded, police said.

According to related rules, drivers who illegally occupy sidewalks will face illegal parking fines between 1,000 yuan (US$145) and 2,000 yuan.

At around 10 a.m., a driver was caught illegally parking his vehicle on the sidewalk of Bagua Road 3 in Futian District. The driver was fined 1,000 yuan.

At around 9:30 a.m., Luohu police found a zombie car, which was illegally on the roadside near Honggang Road. The vehicle had no license plates and was suspected of being a scrapped car.

Vehicles without license plates or that are using fake plates, and scrapped cars or those with three unhandled violations, can be towed away.

The public can call 0755-8333-3333, send text messages to 0755110, log onto www.stc.gov.cn, or send messages to the police’s WeChat account or microblog to make reports.

Police will offer a 100 yuan cash reward for each zombie car reported. Whistleblowers who report scrapped vehicles, or vehicles running on roads with fake or duplicated license plates will receive a 2,000 yuan reward.
