ADVANCED cleaning machines were commissioned in the Huaqiangbei area in Futian District to keep the commercial street tidy and clean, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Sunday.

Early Saturday morning, a high-temperature cleaning vehicle caught many people’s eyes as it drove on Huaqiangbei Commercial Street, cleaning the street with a 100-degree-Celsius spray of water. It was followed by a polishing vehicle that swept the dirty water into the sewer drains.

Many people might not only think of dazzling electronic products when they talk about Huaqiangbei Commercial Street, but also the street spotted with advertising stickers.

Futian District launched a new sanitation work model in 14 pilot areas, including Huaqiangbei Commercial Street, on March 16 and replaced street sweepers with cleaning machines.

The sanitation company that is responsible for cleaning the commercial street employs 30 cleaners over three shifts a day to wash the street, and 20 backup cleaners were added to the team for the May Day holiday, according to the company’s spokesperson.

A cleaner, surnamed Ma, said that the granite commercial street was apt to get dirty, but that the advanced cleaning machines could easily clear the dirt and litter from the street.

The cleaning team cleans an area of 80,000 square meters using seven cleaning machines, including a high-temperature and high-pressure scrubber, a high-pressure water truck and an electric three-wheeled cleaning vehicle. Around 16 cubic meters of water is used each time to clean the whole area.

Twelve sanitation companies were assigned to pilot the adoption of the new sanitation work model in 14 areas in Futian District, which covers 16 major roads in the district, such as Shennan Boulevard, Binhe Boulevard, Caitian Road and Xiangmihu Road, according to the report.
