SZ courier awarded National Labor Medal
    2017-May-3  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHEN CHUN, a courier for SF-Express, is one of the 80,000 couriers in Shenzhen. Chen was awarded the National Labor Medal this year, making him the first courier in Guangdong Province honored with the medal, according to Duchuang.

Chen came to Shenzhen 14 years ago from Henan Province. Since he became employed by SF-Express in 2005, Chen has impressed his supervisors and clients with his down-to-earth and hardworking attitude.

Chen took an order to deliver a head lamp on a rainy day after four of his colleagues turned it down because they didn’t want the trouble. He stuffed the parcel with shockproof fillers and checked with the delivery stations until the parcel was delivered to the recipient safely.

Chen once rented a tricycle to bring eight boxes of products to SF-Express’ warehouse for a client because the client had placed the order too late, after the delivery truck had left.

Dubbed “Packing King” by his clients, Chen has made a name for being a trustworthy courier in the Huaqiangbei area. Now he receives nearly 200 parcels per day and doesn’t get any complaints from his clients. He hasn’t made any mistakes at work over the past 12 years. He has used the same phone number for 13 years, and 90 percent of the contacts in his phone are his clients.

Chen said that he was content with his job at SF-Express and that he wanted to be a courier for the rest of his life.

Chen has been awarded a slew of other titles, such as the Shenzhen Labor Medal in 2014, National Outstanding Migrant Workers in 2015 and Guangdong Province Labor Medal in 2016.

Chen said that he couldn’t believe he was one of the awardees of the Shenzhen Labor Medal in 2014, because he used to think that the medalists should be those who had made great contributions to society, such as scientists and entrepreneurs.

“I felt stressed after I got the medal because other people might look up to me as a role model, which meant that I would need to be more diligent and careful at work,” he said. (Zhang Yang)
