Mortgaged car

A WOMAN in Shenzhen surnamed Chen suspects she was cheated by a car dealer into buying a Mercedes Benz that was owned by a Beijing company.

Chen bought the car at the reduced price of 239,000 yuan (US$34,638) in July from the car dealership.

However, on April 22, the car parked on the roadside was driven away by a man surnamed Guo, who was an employee of Mercedes Bens Leasing Co. in Beijing. Guo claimed that he had been contracted to loan the mortgaged car to the car shop. The contract had expired so he drove it back to Beijing.

A police investigation revealed that the car transfer contract signed by Chen with the dealership was invalid as the car was mortgaged and the car dealership didn’t have the right to sign a sale contract. It had been signed by an employee and didn’t bear a company seal.

Red-light baby

A CAB drove against a red light to bring a 9-month-old baby, who was suffering from convulsions caused by a high fever and viral infection, to a hospital Tuesday.

The driver, Xiong Haitao, picked up the baby and the mother when he was driving along the road in Minzhi, Longhua District, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. Xiong drove them to the Longhua Hospital in 10 minutes. The baby is in stable condition and Xiong’s company has applied to the police to exempt Xiong from punishment.

App-based cabs

THE transport commission has issued 1,551 copies of certificates and approved 12,852 drivers to engage in app-based cab services as of Tuesday. App-based cab operators are required to complete license applications by May 30. So far, Car Inc. and Mr. Car have obtained licenses, while applications of eight other operators including Didi are being processed.

The commission issues vehicle certificates and 7,382 have passed checks.
