THE heavy rain Thursday morning, mainly in Bao’an, Longgang and Dapeng, caused the cancellation of 42 flights at Shenzhen International Airport.

Seventeen other flights arriving in Shenzhen were forced to land at Guangzhou and Chaoshan airports, according to a release from Shenzhen Airport Group.

The Shenzhen airport issued a yellow warning for flight delays at 9 a.m. and upgraded it to orange at 10:30 a.m.

Shenzhen’s flood prevention and disaster relief office said Dapeng recorded heavy rain reaching 72.4 millimeters in the four hours between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. The average rainfall was 42.6 millimeters by 4 p.m. Thursday.

Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory canceled the yellow warning for heavy rain at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The weather will be cloudy with occasional showers between Friday and Sunday and temperatures will drop slightly.
