FREE workshops and activities featuring healthy lifestyles attracted many health-conscious residents to the 4th Health and Wellness Fair, which was organized by Vista-SK International Medical Center in Nanshan District on Saturday.
Visitors were provided with free checkups and consultations with specialists from the medical center, as well as opportunities to learn yoga, tango, meditation, vegan cooking, first-aid tips and other hands-on skills to live a healthy life. Booths were set up for vendors to sell health-related products, such as essential oils, skin care products, fine teas and organic food.
Yaron Ben Reytan, an Israeli who has lived in Shenzhen for six years, attended the fair with his wife and two daughters. “My wife wants to come here to see if there is any new natural or healthy product she can use or buy, because we already bought from some of the suppliers here,” he said.
It’s the second time that Ben Reytan’s family has visited the fair. They did some checkups and bought organic vegetables, salad and juices this time. According to him, the family has visited Vista-SK two or three times before, and he prefers visiting the center instead of public hospitals for simple treatments.
Kate Jacklin, who is responsible for Western marketing at Vista-SK, said that the fair provides an opportunity for people to see the medical facilities at the center and enjoy the different kinds of wellness and health products available in Shenzhen.
Dr. Wang Yan, a general practitioner at the medical center, gave some advice to sport enthusiasts during the fair. “The summer is coming and the weather in Shenzhen will be hot and humid, so people should avoid doing sports at noon and drink water regularly throughout the workout,” she said.
Dr. Wang said climbers’ knees could be easily injured because a person’s knees bear four times the person’s own weight when he is climbing. “The elderly should avoid climbing for long hours. As an alternative, they can ride bicycles or go swimming to protect their knees,” she said.
