SHENZHEN’S first English-language news portal, www.eyeshenzhen.com, turns 1 today and a new design of the portal is also being released.

EyeShenzhen, along with an English-language WeChat service account, was launched and put into operation May 9 last year.

The world’s window into Shenzhen, the news portal provides a vast amount of precise, up-to-date and useful information for expats and visitors alike.

EyeShenzhen and its WeChat account have been serving expats living in Shenzhen and other cities in Guangdong with the latest news, tips on life, work, study, government policies, transportation, medical services, education, tourism, hotels and culture, making their life easier.

Currently, the website receives around 20,000 page views per day and the number of active readers of the EyeShenzhen WeChat account has reached around 10,000. It has gradually become an important part of the daily life for expats living in Shenzhen, according to comments left by readers on the EyeShenzhen WeChat account.

Apart from serving as an information provider, EyeShenzhen also interacts with readers. For example, it has launched an event series called “Join us for fun,” which invites expats to grab a bite of delicious food and traditional Chinese culture like local crafting techniques, drama and customs.

The new version of the website consists of nine sections, namely News, Events, Directory, Community, Gateway to SZ, Living in SZ, Culture, Travel and Videos & Photos. It covers information ranging from the latest news in Shenzhen and other parts of China, a city introduction, information about public services, and expats’ stories to leisure and lifestyle information.

Different from the old layout, the newly designed website is more flexible and user-friendly with a more intuitive interface that offers more dynamic information. It also has links to a selection of English websites for services in the city.

EyeShenzhen is sponsored by the Publicity Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and run by the Shenzhen Daily.
