Free cable upgrade
STARTING yesterday, clients of Topway Video Communication can enjoy a free upgrade of their Cable TV Set Top Box to a 4K intelligent box for high-resolution channels, interactive entertainment and smart-home functions.
Clients who joined the company before May 1 are eligible to apply for the free service and will be charged normal fees on a monthly basis.
Trapped climbers
A GROUP of nine tourists were rescued by Dapeng police, firefighters and professional rescuers after being trapped on Paiya Mountain for nearly six hours early Monday morning.
Police from Dapeng’s public security sub-bureau received a call for help at around 8 p.m. Sunday from the climbers and were informed that the climbers had lost their way on the mountain and one of them was severely injured.
The six-hour rescue was challenging and dangerous as the mountain roads are very complex and rough. It wasn’t until 1 a.m. the next day that all of the missing climbers had been found and transferred to the police station.
Den destroyed
AN underground den that had been producing fake iPhones was busted by police recently with nine suspects detained at the police station.
According to a report filed by Apple’s person in charge of trademark, a workshop in Guangming New Area was making fake iPhones. The new area’s market and quality supervision department dispatched more than 30 law enforcement officers to raid the den. They seized 427 fake phones at the scene.
Pipeline gas
THE Luohu government officially initiated a project to renovate the pipeline gas equipment in 139 restaurants in Luohu on Monday.
Some restaurants are still using gas tanks to save costs, which potentially poses a danger to people working and dining in the restaurants. The district government put forward the project earlier this year.
The project is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
Vegetable prices drop
OVER the last month, vegetable prices in Shenzhen underwent a seasonal drop due to the warming weather and ample supply, announced the city’s pricing certificate center.
The average price for vegetables in April was around 3.73 yuan (US$0.54) marking a drop of 0.6 percent compared to March.
However, the price of eggs is showing an upward tendency after plummeting drastically last month. Pork prices may continue to drop with less demand on warm days.
