Couple in need of help for premature newborn twins
    2017-May-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A PHYSICALLY challenged woman gave birth to twin boys May 2 at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, but the premature twins were transferred to an NICU after birth as they couldn’t breathe on their own.

However, the couple who are both physically challenged could not bear the huge financial burden of treating the twins.

The family is now in need of more than 600,000 yuan (US$86,891) to pay for the expensive care for the premature twin brothers. Each of the municipal and district-level disabled federations supported the family with 30,000 yuan, but the amount is far from what the family needs.

The mother, Ding Jinxia, 32, has been an amyosthenia patient since childhood. She is only 1.3 meters tall and weighs 30 kg. Although doctors advised her not to get pregnant, her desire to be a mother was strong.

Ding found she was pregnant last year and was carrying twins. However, her physical condition made delivery a difficult challenge.

Ding felt discomfort in her chest April 30 and she was taken to the hospital May 2. Doctors told her that the twins were suffering from oxygen deficiency. Ding had an immediate c-section to save her two children. The brothers were transferred to the NICU of Shenzhen Children’s Hospital right after birth.

The couple were told that the twins would need to stay in the incubators for at least two to three months and the treatment would cost them more than 600,000 yuan, which put the family under a great burden.

Ding’s husband, Xiao Huorong, is also handicapped from an accident that injured his left arm at a young age. Xiao found a job at a company in Nanshan District two years ago, but several months later the company went bankrupt. Xiao received only 30,000 yuan in remuneration.

Ding borrowed some money from her siblings to open an online maternity franchise shop last year, but she lost the money to swindlers.

The couple can have 60 percent of the twins’ medical costs reimbursed after Xiao’s medical insurance card is issued. But now the family needs a lot of cash to pay the hospital.

Readers who want to help can reach Xiao with this phone number 13713978604 or make donations to his Alipay account: 1129088609@qq.com or the following bank account:
