A MAN, who stood trial at Bao’an People’s Court for allegedly assaulting a doctor, asked court for leniency at Thursday’s hearing.
The man, identified as Shi, allegedly attacked the doctor after being rejected for cutting in a line. He faces a jail term between one and 2.5 years.
According to the prosecutors, Shi accompanied his wife to a health check Oct. 15 last year at Bao’an People’s Hospital. Shi asked for permission from the doctor surnamed Tang to cut the line, but was rejected.
Shi became agitated, according to prosecutors. He allegedly smashed a window, kicked open the door of the doctor’s office and attacked Tang, who was later treated for eye and cornea injuries and had five stitches.
Shi claimed in the court that he hadn’t used an electric fan to attack Tang, and that their fight started outside the office instead of him breaking into the office.
Shi explained that they had brought their month-old baby with them to the checkup and the baby began crying after they had waited in the line for so long, he had no choice but to ask the doctor for permission to cut the line.
Shi claimed Tang started the fight by grabbing his neck and saying “were you raised up by breastfeeding?” Shi claimed he didn’t intentionally attack Tang, but was simply worried over his baby’s crying. (Han Ximin)
