A DRIVER for the Didi Chauffeur service, surnamed Zou, was awarded 5,000 yuan (US$728.5) for racing against time to take a car owner, who had suffered from sudden heart arrest, to the hospital.

On Tuesday night, Zou received an order to drive the car owner from Xiangmi Lake Sports Center to Bao’an District. The middle-aged man, surnamed Pan, was feeling some discomfort and asked Zou to drive slowly. Later on, Pan asked Zou to drive to the hospital as he felt discomfort in his heart.

Zou drove to the nearest Xili hospital but ran a red light, so he called the 110 police hotline for help.

“It was the first time that I had encountered such a situation and I was a little bit nervous,” Zou said. Zou stayed at the hospital for an hour until Pan’s friends confirmed that he was in stable condition.

Zou, a native of Sichuan, became a Didi driver in January last year. Zou has completed more than 2,300 orders and is a diamond-level driver.
