A WOMAN living in the China Hong Kong City housing estate in Futian District is hoping workers will be more careful of birds’ nests while trimming trees in neighborhoods.
The woman, surnamed Li, recently found that a bird nest, which housed three birds, had been toppled to the ground while afforestation workers were cutting off branches or trimming trees in the housing estate.
“It is a pity and sad that the birds lost their home just because of the negligence of workers,” Li complained, hoping the property management would avoid trimming trees during the period between March and July, which is the breeding season for birds.
The Shenzhen Bird Watching Association said that birds generally breed between March and July. The workers should try not to disturb the birds if they find the nests while trimming trees on the streets, in the parks and in communities.
Some bird lovers suggested that the afforestation department stagger the times when it trims trees in autumn and winter seasons, instead of during the spring and summer period.
