THREE members of a family were killed in a fire in an apartment building in Futian District yesterday morning.

The fire started at 5:36 a.m. in room 1507 of Changcheng Building on Baihua No. 4 Road. It was put out at around 6:03 a.m.

The identities of the three victims were still unknown. Shenzhen’s fire department said on its official microblog that the fire may have been caused by home appliances. One person was saved during the rescue.

According to a manager with Changcheng Property Management Co., surnamed Wang, four people were living in the apartment. The three who were killed were the parents and their child. The relative of the family was saved.

Photos on the microblog show the blackened exterior wall of the apartment. Video clips taken by residents show the apartment engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.

The apartment building was built 30 years ago and is located in the old Yuanling residential area. When the tragedy happened, fire engines were blocked by vehicles parked on the street as the building doesn’t have underground parking. The firefighters had to bring fire hoses inside the building to extinguish the fire.

The housing estate accommodates 1,000 households, but only 400 parking places are available.
