Under the guidance of my teacher and with everyone’s efforts, our experimental class made great achievements last semester. We learned many great language-learning strategies. We had a speech competition during which we imitated Obama’s speech “Why should we go to school.” And quite a few classmates gave lessons. What’s more, in our New Year’s gala, we successfully put on our lively show “Beauty and the East” which received lots of wonderful feedback and praise. I am proud of all the actors, and I appreciate my teacher’s organization and guidance. In this show, I acted the leading role — Beauty Belle, a kind and brave girl who finds her true love during a series of adventures. By playing this role, I have learned a lot from her. She is so selfless that when the Beast is defeated by the Dragon King, she chooses to save the Beast by meeting the Dragon King’s requirements. What’s more, she never judges anyone else by their appearance, because she believes that true goodness is from a person’s heart, not from his appreance. During the rehearsals, Cai Qixiang was the one who made the most progress. At the beginning, he had trouble pronouncing and remembering the lines. Having practiced a lot, he gradually did better with Rose’s help. Eventually, he perfectly acted the evil role, the Dragon King, with his wretched tone and exaggerated postures. As a matter of fact, not only Cai, but all of us have improved a lot since we started Although we did very well, there was still some room for improvement. To make our performance better, we should think more carefully and deeply about drama details. In a way, if you want to act a role well, you have to understand the role first. For my performance, I felt that I could act it better by improving my comprehension of the character’s emotions, for example, her fear when she is teased by the Dragon King and her gratitude when she is saved by the Beast. In my opinion, to keep our drama away from becoming tedious and to make it lively, there are two things to do. First, use emotional tones. By doing so, our voices can give the audience a vivid image, which can help to guide them through our story and understand and enjoy the play. Second, use correct facial expressions and gestures. Never think that the audience won’t be aware of these details. A show attracts the audience with details. For instance, Bai Jieyu used her sharp eye-contacts and rude gestures to act the role of the greedy elder sister. Above all, although there was maybe some room for improvement, our play was a big success. I was so lucky to be a part of the team and I treasured this valuable acting experience. |
