SHENZHEN transport commission issued an operation license Tuesday to Didi Chuxing, the largest app-based vehicle operator in China.

Didi Chuxing, which has 12 service offices in Shenzhen, provides 516,000 flexible job opportunities in the city.

Among the drivers, 80 percent were born after the 1970s. Around 20,000 female drivers have been employed by the service platform.

A recent report released by Didi showed that Didi Express and Didi Premier had served 10.73 million riders by August 2016.

According to rules regarding the app-based cab service industry, which were revealed in December last year, app-based cab operators need to apply for a business license, and drivers need to apply for a qualification permit and a vehicle business certificate before providing app-based cab services.

The operators are required to complete their applications before Tuesday, by uploading their platform data to the databank of the government’s business vehicle supervision platform, and to obtain their business license before June 27. Otherwise they will be considered illegal service providers.

In Shenzhen, an app-based taxi driver must possess Shenzhen hukou or a residency card, have three years of driving experience, and pass the qualification tests. Their cars should have been produced within two years of the date they register to engage in app-based cab services, according to the rules.
