Vehicle separation

THE city’s traffic police will impose a rule separating heavy vehicles from light passenger vehicles on seven expressways and trunk roads including Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, Nanguang Expressway, Nigang Road, Buxin Road, Yanhe Road and Yueliangwan Boulevard starting June 7. Heavy vehicles using light-vehicle lanes will be fined 200 yuan (US$29) and have three penalty points added to their license.

Police will start imposing fines June 21, giving two-week grace period.

Shenzhen first piloted the program on Beihuan Boulevard, aiming to reduce dangers and accidents caused by frequent the lane changes of vehicles. The vehicle flow of both light and heavy vehicles has improved since the rule was implemented last December.

Express bus lane

SHENZHEN traffic police will designate a bus lane on the section of Eastern Coastal Expressway between Luosha Road and Dameisha Tollgate starting Sunday, banning eastbound vehicles from entering the lane between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. during the weekends and holidays.

The move aims to give priority to buses that often get stuck in traffic heading east during holidays. Only buses and yellow-plate vehicles with more than 10 seats can use the bus lane.

Meiguan viaduct

A VIADUCT linking Huawei and Meiguan Expressway was put into operation Thursday, three months ahead of schedule.

The opening of the viaduct will relieve pressure on Wuhe Boulevard and Zhangheng Road, which are often crowded with the 2,500 vehicles coming to and leaving Huawei during rush hours.

Man detained

A MAN was detained 10 days for flying a drone in the controlled aerial area which poses a threat to flights.

The man surnamed Lin was caught May 22 as he was flying a civilian drone near the airport area.

This was the second detention in a week for drone violations. According to regulations, the area with 10 kilometers of the central line of a runway and 20 kilometers of both ends of a runway constitute the aerial clearance area for flights.

Any individual, unit or organization is forbidden from engaging in aerial activities without approval.

Starting from June, owners of civilian drones weighing above 250 grams must register with their ID.
