156 people disqualified from driving for life

SHENZHEN traffic police have disqualified 156 drivers from driving for life for being involved in serious traffic violations, such as hit-and-runs and drunk driving, since September 2015.

Among the drivers, 29 were locally registered and 127 were nonlocally registered, the traffic police authority said at a news conference Thursday.

Among the drivers, 130 had fled from the scene of an accident and 55 were involved in drunk driving that caused an accident.

According to relevant rules, drivers who cause major accidents, flee from accidents, or cause accidents while driving under the influence of alcohol will be disqualified from driving for life.

On July 1, 2016, Chen Xiaowei, driving an unlicensed motorbike, hit a bike rider on Longgang Boulevard near a bus stop in Danzhutou Community in Longgang District. Chen was held fully responsible for the accident.

On Jan. 18, 2016, Ni Haijia hit a bike rider carrying a passenger, Xue Yuanfang, in Gongming, Guangming New Area. Xue died at the scene. Ni was held fully responsible for the accident due to being drunk while driving.

On Dec. 22, 2015, Wang Guangyan, who was carrying a passenger named Li Mengting in his car, hit a garbage truck on the roadside of Renmin Road West in Kengzi, Longhua. Li died at the scene. Wang was held fully responsible for the accident since he was drunk.
