Female biker killed
A 46-YEAR-OLD woman surnamed Cao was killed in a crash on the auxiliary road of Yanhe Road South in Luohu District early Sunday, police said on its official microblog.
The car driver, surnamed Liu, 36, who fled the scene after the accident, has been caught. A test showed the alcohol content in Liu’s blood had reached 117 mg per 100 ml, more than double the level for drunk driving of 80 mg per 100 ml.
Surveillance video showed Cao had been riding her bike in the wrong direction and Liu’s car hit a truck after it knocked down Cao.
Free cab rides
A TOTAL of 2,700 taxis from nine taxi companies under Xihu Shareholding Co. will offer free rides for National College Entrance Examinations takers on June 7 and 8, when the NCEE will be held.

Zongzi restriction
SHENZHEN’s exit and entry inspection and quarantine bureau reminded travelers not to bring zongzi with meat, egg yolk and ham fillings to the Chinese mainland from Hong Kong.
On Sunday, the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival, Huanggang and Futian checkpoints saw 300,000 travelers.
Bus parking facility
THE transport commission has started construction on the second comprehensive bus parking facility southeast of the intersection of Danzi Boulevard and the Outer Ring Expressway in Pingshan District.
The Jinniudong Road Bus Facility covers an area of 21,218.68 square meters. The 10-story building offers parking for 429 buses and 64 light vehicles from the first to the sixth floor and office space from the seventh to the 10th floor. The project is expected to be completed in April 2019, also providing charging for electric buses.
Shenzhen faces a shortage of parking spaces for buses.
Shanwei hospital
CONSTRUCTION of Shenshan Central Hospital, the biggest project under the counterpart aid work of Shenzhen in Shanwei, started Saturday.
The 1.6 billion yuan (US$233 million) project, which is located to the west of Shanke Road near the high-speed railway station in Shanwei, covers an area of 133,333 square meters and will be a top hospital offering 800 hospital beds upon completion at the end of 2020.
Geoduck smuggling
WENJINDU Customs seized 742 kilograms of modeling geoducks in 37 cartons being smuggled to Shenzhen in a truck that was declared empty to customs Friday.
A container truck declared itself empty to customs at Whenjindu Checkpoint at 5 p.m. Friday, but the driver was reluctant to go through the check. Customs officers found 37 foam boxes of geoducks inside the container.
The geoducks have been handed to the quarantine department to be destroyed.
Security guard injured
A SECURITY guard risked his life recently by lying in front of a Benz to prevent it from entering a parking lot.
In rage, the reckless driver drove the car over the guard, causing him brain and oral cavity bleeding.
Police said on its official microblog that the security guard was in stable condition and not at risk of death, while the driver Chen had been held for investigation.
Tunnel checks
SHENZHEN transport and traffic police authorities will jointly launch checks over 100 tunnels in the city to ensure safety, Shenzhen transport commission said at a news conference recently.
The announcement was made following an oil tanker explosion inside the tunnel on Zhangshi Expressway in Hebei Province on May 23 that caused 12 deaths and 15 injuries.
The oil tanker rear-ended a coal truck in the tunnel of the highway linking Zhangjiakou and Shijiazhuang.
