Jack’s adventure to Archenland
    2017-05-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Jack was gazing out his window, looking at the rain outside. It had been raining for days and it still hadn’t stopped. It was flooding outside. Soon, he grew tired and fell asleep.

The next day, he woke up suddenly because of a loud “bang.” He sat right up in bed and looked around. The scene was terrible. The water had risen up during the night and flooded his second-floor bedroom. The wind had blown the window open hence the loud “bang” sound.

He crawled out of bed into the knee-high water. The rain was pouring from the sky and the frightening thunder, was even louder than before. The water was rising up every second. Soon it was up to his chest. He inched forward onto the staircase. Soon he was out of the water again.

He knew that his mother and father were outside working, and he had to face this situation by himself. So he tumbled up the stairs, with the water right behind him. Soon, he came to the highest point of his house: the roof-side balcony.

Suddenly, he heard a voice, small but very clear. He looked around, and was surprised to see a small angel, flapping its wings up and down. He had never seen an angel before. “But this one,” he thought, “must be a special one.”

The small voice appeared again. “Quick! Quick! Get on my back before this terrible storm swallows you up!”

He jumped on the creature’s back and they flew away.

“Where are you taking me?” asked Jack.

“To the far-off land of Archenland of course. That is where my home is. I had come here to deliver a secret message to the king of Narnia. On the way back, I saw you and decided to save you from this cruel storm. By the way, what’s your name? I’m getting tired of calling you ‘you’.”

“You can call me Jack,” said Jack.

They flew over river after river, mountain after mountain, and then city after city. Into a great white cloud they flew, and when they finally flew out of the cloud, they were in a totally new place. A great sandy desert spread out before them and in front of them was a huge mountain.

“That is the land of Archenland,” explained the angel. “Maybe we can rest at my home.”

They flew down and landed on a small patch of green grass. There in front of them was a small hut with kettles and books scattered everywhere.

“Let me get you a cup of tea and some cake,” said the angel.

They entered the room and sat down. A moment later, the cake was finished.

They ate and told each other stories. It was such a wonderful time. The angel even played a tiny flute for Jack. After about half an hour, Jack said, “I guess I have to go now. It has been a long time and maybe the flooding has stopped.”

Again they flew back. Sure enough, the rain had stopped and a bright colorful rainbow hung in the sky.

“Goodbye!” said Jack. But the angel was already gone.
