Girl knocked unconscious by falling window
    2017-June-1  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 3-YEAR-OLD girl was hit by a window that fell out of a residential building in Longgang District leaving her in a coma Sunday, according to a local TV news program.

The girl, identified as Xin, was diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage and multiple skull fractures at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital. She was still unconscious and in critical condition Monday.

According to Xin’s mother, as she and her two daughters were passing by the residential building in Nanwan Subdistrict on Sunday afternoon when a window with an aluminum frame fell from the building and hit Xin in the head.

A tenant in the apartment from where the window fell, surnamed Zhang, said that his family had just moved into the apartment, but that he had noticed that there was something wrong with the bedroom’s window before he moved in.

The landlord of the apartment, surnamed Chen, said that she wasn’t in Shenzhen and knew nothing about the accident.

According to the existing tort liability law, if objects fall from a building and injure someone, the owner, administrator and user of the building should be held legally responsible. Residents living in high-rise buildings should check their windows, balconies and outer walls on a regular basis to avoid accidents.

Pedestrians are advised to be wary of falling objects on windy and rainy days, take the shielded passageways when passing high-rise buildings and avoid road sections with signs warning of falling objects, according to the report.
