SHENZHEN has been given an A-level rating by the Guangdong Provincial Government for its work in food safety, the city’s food safety work office said.

Alligator gar

A MAN hooked a 1-meter-long fish last week in the Buji River, which was suspected to be alligator gar.

Alligator gar is an alien species that is found in fresh water in the river mouth of Mexico Bay, lower reaches of the Missouri River and Ohio River, and some lakes in Nicaragua. The fish has been listed as an endangered species by the U.S. Animal Protection Institute.

Marine experts estimate that the fish might have been freed by fish lovers as it grew too big and couldn’t be held in a fish tank.

Driver killed

A DRIVER surnamed Deng who got out of a car to pick up a paper box left on an expressway was killed by a light truck Saturday.

The accident happened at the Fuyong Exit of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway on Saturday morning after Deng parked the car in the middle of the expressway and picked up the box containing two dresses.
