Hit-and-run accidents
SHENZHEN has reported a total of 81 fatal hit-and-run accidents since 2015 and all of them have been busted by police.
Drivers choose to escape from accident scenes mostly because of overloading, having no license or insurance, driving under the influence of alcohol, or being unable to compensate the victims, the police said. Most of the hit-and-run accidents happen late at night or in the wee hours of the morning.
Most of the drivers were between the ages of 20 and 40 and had low levels of education, according to a report released by the police yesterday. Police are offering cash rewards of between 5,000 yuan (US$736) and 20,000 yuan for clues regarding hit-and-run accidents involving one to three deaths.
Youth center
THE expansion project of the Shenzhen Juvenile Activity Center, with an investment of 262.5 million yuan, will be put into operation this September.
The eight-story building, which is located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Hongli Road and Hongling Road, includes exhibition halls, multiple-function rooms, training rooms and public service space. It will be a permanent place for activities related to juveniles.
