Forbes unveils highest paid athletes in 2017

FORBES unveiled its annual rankings of the highest paid athletes in the world for 2017 Wednesday and Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list.

The list combines athletes’ salary and winnings for the past year with their earnings from endorsements.

Soccer star Ronaldo, who plays for Real Madrid, is at US$58 million in salary and US$35 million in endorsements, giving him total earnings of US$93 million.

He was also No. 1 last year.

Following Ronaldo on the list is NBA star LeBron James.

The Cleveland Cavaliers player is at US$86.2 million.

Soccer star Lionel Messi (US$80 million), tennis star Roger Federer (US$64 million) and NBA star Kevin Durant (US$60.6 million) round out the Top 5.

Former Arizona State basketball standout James Harden, who plays for the Houston Rockets, is No. 9 at US$46.6 million.

Former ASU golfer Phil Mickelson is at No. 12 with US$43.5 million.(SD-Agencies)
