DUI cases

SHENZHEN traffic police caught 5,461 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, including 2,246 drunken drivers, between January and May, an increase of 68 percent and 63 percent respectively over the same period last year. Most of them were caught between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. and 44 percent of the drivers were aged between 30 and 39.

The city reported 444 DUI-related accidents in the first five months that resulted in 11 deaths.

TCM pilot zone

SHENZHEN has initiated six measures on innovative policy, talent introduction and service mechanisms to push forward traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) reforms.

The city was chosen as one of the 15 national pilot zones for traditional Chinese medicine reforms in April.

Man handcuffed

AN innocent man in Longgang District was handcuffed for refusing to cooperate with a police investigation of a street scuffle last week.

Though the man, surnamed Wang, claimed he hadn’t been involved in a street fight, police took him away from his home in front of his 8-year-old child to a police station for investigation.

Police said they received a report saying Wang was involved in a gang fight and had harassed a girl. Wang was later set free.
