SHENZHEN’S CPI in May saw a slight increase of 0.1 percent compared with last month and an increase of 1.2 percent over the same period last year, statistics from the Shenzhen Survey Team of the National Statistics Bureau showed.
Among eight categories, prices of health care and clothing increased by 7.4 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively, compared with the same period last year, statistics showed.
Shenzhen’s CPI was still running low in May this year, but seven of the eight main categories of commodities and services have seen a rise in CPI.
In the food category, the price of aquatic products increased by 1.5 percent compared with April due to a fishing ban starting in May that resulted in a short supply.
In contrast, due to sufficient supply, prices of vegetables, eggs and pork decreased by 1.7 percent, 0.9 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively.
In non-food categories, traveling and commuting prices saw an increase as the city raised cab fares from May 5, which was the first increase in cab fares over the past eight years.
Cab fares increased by 3.5 percent over the previous month, and bus and train fares increased by 3.7 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively, due to short-trip travel during the May Day and Dragon Boat Festival holidays.
