Vagrant assault
A FORESTATION worker surnamed Zeng was clubbed in the head by a homeless man near Futian Litchi Park on Tuesday.
The incident happened at around 4 p.m., when a homeless person who had been sleeping in the litchi park picked up a stick and batted her in the head for no apparent reason.
Zeng, 56, was seriously injured and lost quite a lot of blood while laying on the ground before being taken to Shenzhen Armed Police Hospital for treatment by some witnesses.
The attacker has been detained for investigation.
Gold smuggling
SHATOUJIAO Customs seized 1,283 golden necklaces and eardrops, which had a market value of 600,000 yuan (US$88,235) and weighed 2,900 milligrams, in a smuggling case last week, sources from the customs authority said.
A middle-aged woman who wanted to enter Shenzhen via Zhongying Street on June 6 looked very suspicious as she was carrying a small bag, walking slowly and clumsily and covering her abdomen with a half-opened umbrella. Customs officers later found that she had tied jewelry around her belly and legs.
Endangered toads
SHATOUJIAO Customs seized 300 oriental fire-bellied toads from the Hong Kong-bound vehicle inspection lane at Zhongying Street Checkpoint on Friday.
An officer heard croaks when he opened the door of a car for a routine check.
The officer later found 300 toads in three bags in the car’s trunk.
The South China Wildlife Identification Center has confirmed that the oriental fire-bellied toads are an endangered species.
The case has been handed over to the inspection and quarantine administration.
