Dengue fever case
THE inspection and quarantine authority at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint spotted an imported dengue fever case in a passenger recently, the 11th case so far this year, indicating the high risk of such cases.
A Vietnamese traveler was detected having a high temperature as he crossed the border to Shenzhen from Hong Kong. The traveler claimed that he felt uncomfortable and had taken some flu pills. A blood test, however, showed that the traveler had contracted dengue fever.
Shenzhen has seen a rise in dengue fever cases this year, which has raised concerns over the increased risk of contracting the disease that is brought in by travelers from some Southeast Asian countries.
Demolition starts
A FIVE-STORY building was demolished recently in Hangcheng Subdistrict, Bao’an District, marking the start of demolition projects along the Shenzhen side of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor.
The projects for the corridor, which spans the Pearl River and links Shenzhen with Zhongshan, require a total land requisition of 210,000 square meters and the demolition of 188 buildings in five communities in the subdistrict. The government has completed compensation negotiations with five shareholding companies in the communities.
Ferry service
PENGXING Ferry Service Co., a subsidiary of Shenzhen Oceanus Group, has opened a route from Shekou to Outer Lingding Island.
Outer Lingding Island is rated as a 4A tourism zone. The ferry, with a capacity of 199 passengers, leaves Shekou at 10:10 a.m. every day and travels about 70 to 80 minutes to reach Outer Lingding Island. The return ferry leaves the island at 11:45 a.m. every day.
Lost and found
A TAXI driver named Li Ming returned 100,000 yuan (US$14,710) in cash to the owner, Wang, after he found a bag in his taxi Friday.
Li gave the bag to his company, which called police for help. Since Wang also called the police, the company was able to return the cash via the police.
More ETC lanes
THE city’s expressway operators will open more electronic toll collection (ETC) lanes to relieve congestion at tollgates.
The expressway operators in Guangdong have reduced the price for the ETC electronic tag from 200 yuan to 110 yuan to encourage more drivers to use the electronic toll service.
