NANSHAN District has revealed plans for the development of Xili Central Business Area and Shekou Old Town Area in the north and south of the district, local Chinese-language media reported yesterday.
The Shekou area, which is located in the geometric center of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay area, will be built into a coastal, residential and commercial neighborhood integrating the fishery and oceanic arts industries and feature tourism, according to the Nanshan District Governor Wang Qiang, who conducted on-site inspections of the two areas Sunday.
The Shekou Old Town renovation project, which comprises three fishing villages, will utilize regional renovation and reconstruction methods, which allows the dismantling of some shabby buildings and structures on the condition of maintaining the traditional appearance and constancy of the village’s public space.
The renovation of the old town will complement Sea World, Princess Bay Homeport and Shekou Net Valley as an organic part of the Shekou Peninsula.
Public transportation, including Metro and bus services, and slow and intelligent traffic systems will invigorate the community.
The planned Xili Central Business Area in northwestern Nanshan District will be developed along a bank of the Dashahe River. It will be a secondary district center of culture, commerce and residence, providing auxiliary support to the development of northern Nanshan.
According to the district development plan, a high-speed railway station with 11 platforms and 20 rail lines will be built. The construction of Xili Railway Station has been included in city’s overall development plan. Metro lines 13, 15 and 29 will pass through the area in the future.
