Frigatebird spotted
A LESSER frigatebird was spotted over Shenzhen Bay Bridge on Saturday morning, marking the second time such a bird has been seen in Shenzhen since bird watching has been recorded in the city.
The last time a sighting of the bird was recorded in Shenzhen was in 2009. Bird watching enthusiasts think the bird flew to Shenzhen to escape the bad weather over the sea.
At around 75 cm in length, the lesser frigatebird is the smallest frigatebird species.
Fraudulent love
AN 85-year-old man identified as Huang Yang, who lived alone in Nanwan Subdistrict, Longgang District, was cheated out of 200,000 yuan (US$29,380) in a honey-trap set by a woman.
Huang got to know the woman identified as Xiaoli, who worked at a hairdressing and massage parlor in 2005, and their relationship developed very quickly as Xiaoli often came to his home to help him cook and clean, claiming she wanted to marry him.
Yet in 2009, Xiaoli asked him for some help as her brother was in debt and she wanted to mortgage Huang’s house to pay back his bank loans. Huang gave her the housing certificate and later signed some documents at a bank without looking them over. The documents were actually for a property ownership transfer rather than a mortgage payment.
At the end of 2009, Xiaoli even asked Huang to give her 3,500 yuan a month for computer and accounting lessons. Huang had wired her 200,000 yuan between 2009 and 2016 before it was discovered by his children. Huang’s children checked the housing records and found that Huang’s apartment had been transferred to a man surnamed Liang in 2017 by Xiaoli.
