Shenzhen, a city of bikes
    2017-06-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Would you like to share your bike with others? Opinions may vary from person to person. Despite the divided opinions, some new start-ups have put millions of bicycles on every corner of the city, waiting for you to “borrow” one so you can commute more freely and eco-friendly.

Because of the convenience such initiatives have brought about, most citizens have witnessed this booming phenomenon and are getting used to it. It’s quite obvious that bike-sharing has become an indispensable part of people’s lives, changing everything in a sensational way.

In the wake of this innovation, bike-sharing has received a warm welcome from citizens living in Shenzhen. It seems that Shenzhen has suddenly been transformed into a “city of bikes,” since you can see numerous students, civil servants, white-collar workers, exercisers and many others riding energetically on colorful bikes, be it a “little yellow bike” or a “little blue bike.” Not only can riding bikes save time when commuting, it is also good for riders’ health. As bike-sharing gives people an opportunity to exercise more.

However, there are still problems that need to be tackled. For example, some users park their bikes anywhere they want on sidewalks, causing trouble for pedestrians. Moreover, bike-rental companies will lose a lot of money maintaining and replacing broken bikes if no compensation comes from careless users. Some necessary rules need to be implemented and bike users need to be told to obey these rules.

More and more bike stations should be developed to facilitate and regulate the use of rental bikes. I am pretty confident that, with the above efforts, this new economic mode will create a win-win situation for both the bike users and the rental companies.

So, here comes the interesting question: What is the next novelty that will change our lives?
