Drugs destroyed

SHENZHEN police have destroyed a total of 956 kilograms of drugs that were seized in the drug cases that courts had concluded between June 28, 2012 and the end of 2013.

In the past year, police seized 9,357 kilograms of different types of drugs, uncovered 2,730 drug-related crimes and busted 243 rings. A total of 3,636 suspects were criminally detained and 2,723 were arrested.

The city also gave 2.41 million yuan (US$353,306) in cash rewards to whistleblowers, police said Tuesday. International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking falls on Monday.

Tidal lane

POLICE are trialing the introduction of a 3.5-km tidal lane from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. this week, between Monday and Saturday, at the Caitian Road intersections with Tianxin Road and Xincai Tunnel. North-bound vehicles can reach Xincai Tunnel via the tidal lane from Caitian Road and Hongli Road.
