Fee exemption
ELECTRIC car users may enjoy preferential policies, such as the reduction or exemption of road fees and parking fees, the use of bus lanes and two hours of free charging at public parking lots, an official said at a forum of the Shenzhen International New-energy Vehicle Industry Exposition recently.
Lu Xiangzhen, assistant director of the Shenzhen Energy-saving and New-energy Automobiles Promotion Leading Group Office, said the Shenzhen government was working on details to encourage the use of electric vehicles.
At present, there are 80,000 new-energy vehicles in Shenzhen. The 15,000 buses of the three bus groups will all be electric by the end of the year. By the end of 2020, all taxis, including app-based cabs, will be electric.
Prank call
A WOMAN surnamed Qiu was detained for five days and fined 200 yuan (US$29) for making a false sexual harassment call for fun, according to a report in the Southern Metropolis Daily.
Qiu called 110 on a dare by her friend and said she had been sexually assaulted. When the officers found nothing at the address she provided, she called again and said that it was a prank. After a lengthy search, the police took her in for investigation.
HK-SZ high-speed rail
CONSTRUCTION of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Line is 93 percent complete.
The 26-km section will be put into operation in the third quarter of 2018, reducing the trip from Hong Kong to Futian to 14 minutes, as well as bringing the time it takes to get to Shenzhen North Railway Station and Guangzhou down to 23 minutes and 48 minutes, respectively.
The trains will be able to carry about 110,000 passengers a day in the first year of operation.
False prescription
A 36-YEAR-OLD woman was prescribed abortion prevention agents by an attending doctor at Longgang District People’s Hospital. According to the woman’s husband, despite the ultrasound showing she had an ectopic pregnancy, the doctor diagnosed her as being at risk of having a miscarriage.
The woman was operated on shortly afterwards in another hospital and is now danger-free. Longgang District People’s Hospital has conveyed its apologies, promising to penalize the attending doctor according to relevant laws and regulations.
