Ex-official jailed
PENG LONG, a former vice director with the Luohu Housing and Construction Bureau, was sentenced to three years in jail by the Yantian court for taking 610,000 yuan (US$89,675) and HK$200,000 (US$25,634) in bribes. Peng abused his power in project bidding and tendering to help enlist some contractors into the district’s budgetary project bank.
The court ordered the confiscation of his illicit earnings and fined Peng 200,000 yuan.
Checks on pedestrians
SHENZHEN traffic police checked 8,938 violations of pedestrians and non-motorized vehicle drivers for going against red lights or using motorist lanes in a two-day action that ended Monday.
Traffic police officers will cooperate with app-based bike operators to suspend violators from the use of app-based bikes in July.
Drone ban
SHENZHEN has banned the flying of drones and other flying objects from yesterday to Friday, according to a notice from the city government.
Violators of the rule will be punished accordingly.
