Line 11 anniversary
METRO Line 11 has handled an average of 312,000 riders a day since it was put into use June 28 last year.
Among the passengers, 37 percent were passengers who transferred from the other six lines and around 40,000 riders used Metro Line 11 to come and go from the Shenzhen airport.
The 51.9-km line, running through Futian, Nanshan and Bao’an CBDs to the Shenzhen airport will be connected with Line 3 in Dongguan.
Coral smuggling
HUANGGANG Customs officers recently seized 10 live corals from an inbound Hong Kong traveler at Futian Checkpoint, a first in customs’ history.
The visitor’s brisk pace and attempts to hide himself in the crowd while passing the supervising area Monday evening attracted the attention of customs officers.
After intercepting the visitor and checking his baggage, the officers found 10 branch-shaped items, identified as live corals.
The case has been handed over to the inspection and quarantine department.
Operation permit
APP-BASED drivers in Shenzhen who haven’t acquired the driving permits required by the authority will be treated as being engaged in an illegal business as of today.
App-based drivers need to take exams to get the driving permits before they are qualified to engage in the service, according to the rule issued by the Shenzhen transport commission Dec. 28 last year, which allowed a six-month period for them to apply.
Vegetable wakes up
A MAN who had been in a vegetative state for nearly two years following a cerebral hemorrhage regained consciousness after being treated at Shenzhen Longcheng Hospital in Longgang District.
The man, Li Shuping, suffered from high blood pressure and cerebrovascular malformation in September 2015. He lost consciousness after surgery and was transferred to the hospital one year ago.
Li became the 11th vegetative patient to be woken up at the hospital.
New hospital
THE new Shenzhen Sun Yat-sen Cardiovascular Hospital will be put into use in July.
The new hospital, which is located near the intersection of Langshan Road and Keyuan Road North in Nanshan District, covers an area of 22,458 square meters. The new building will offer 600 hospital beds for patients.
Pollution penalty
LAW enforcement units in Bao’an District have handled 85 pollution cases concerning the Maozhou River in the first half of the year, imposing 15.96 million yuan (US$2.36 million) in fines.
The river’s water quality has seen a significant improvement and the officials expect to solve the river’s foul odor issue by the end of the year.
