Piano recital by Ervin Nagy

Hungarian pianist and composer Ervin Nagy will present Liszt’s “Ballade No. 2 in B Minor,” Beethoven’s “Sonata No. 23 in F Minor, Op. 57” and Schumann’s “Carnival, Op. 9.”

Nagy won the first prize at the National Youth Piano Competition in Tarhos, Hungary. He was a student of Franz Liszt Academy of Music when he received the third prize at the Porto International Piano Competition in Portugal in 1989. Since then he has performed solo and chamber music all over the world.

In 1990 he was awarded the Liszt-Cliburn Scholarship which enabled him to study further in the United States. In the following years he won numerous prizes including the first prize at the Hemphil Wels Sorrantin International Music Competition, the first prize at the Oklahoma Symphony International Music Competition and the first prize at the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition. He also participated in master classes with Norma Fisher and Andre Watts. He has recorded for Hungaroton and BIS and is a founding member of Trio Art Nouveau.

After returning to Europe he was based in Budapest and Salzburg until 2000 when he started teaching at Franz Liszt Academy of Music. In 2001 he began composing music for video games and multimedia projects.
