“Hacksaw Ridge,” a 2016 biographical war drama film, will be shown free of admission. It is about the World War II experiences of Desmond Doss, a U.S. pacifist combat medic who was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, refusing to carry or use a firearm or weapons of any kind. Doss became the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor, for service above and beyond the call of duty during the Battle of Okinawa. The film was directed by Mel Gibson based on a 2004 documentary about Doss, and stars Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving and Vince Vaughn. “Hacksaw Ridge” was chosen by the American Film Institute as one of its Top 10 Movies of the Year and has received numerous awards and nominations.
