LUOHU Customs found three parallel traders trying to smuggle 200 smartphones from Hong Kong to Shenzhen by taping the phones to their bodies at the checkpoint June 26, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
According to Luohu Customs, three parallel traders were busted at the checkpoint with 204 smartphones taped to their waists and legs as they tried to cross the border from Hong Kong to Shenzhen on June 26.
The parallel traders said they had been paid by a smuggling ring to carry the phones across the border. The case has been filed by the customs for further investigation.
Many parallel traders who hide products on their bodies are busted by customs officers due to exhibiting an unnatural gate. According to the report, some of the phones that are carried by parallel traders from Hong Kong to Shenzhen are second-hand, and are then renovated and resold by the parallel traders to buyers on the mainland.
