WANG TAO, DJI’s chairman of the board, ranked ninth place on a list of self-made billionaires under 40 years old released by Hurun Report on Tuesday.
The list contains self-made billionaires under 40 years old from all around the world. It is the second consecutive year that the Hurun Research Institute has released such a list.
All 47 billionaires on the list built up their wealth without inheriting family fortunes. These billionaires are on average 36 years old and come from eight different countries.
Wang, 37, possesses 45 percent of the shares in DJI Technology. The Shenzhen-headquartered drone company is a leader in the civilian drone market. One of its products, DJI Phantom, is by far the most popular drone, and the company recently launched its first palm-sized drone, SPARK, in New York.
The CEO and chief researcher of Hurun Report, Rupert Hoogewerf, said the young generation of Chinese entrepreneurs is making impressive progress in innovation and nearly 80 percent of successful entrepreneurs come from China and the United States.
The top four billionaires on the list are from Facebook, with Mark Zuckerberg ranking first with a fortune of nearly 400 billion yuan (US$58.86 billion), followed by Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker.
The CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel became the youngest self-made billionaire on the list at age 26. The other top 10 billionaires come from either Uber or Airbnb. (Zhang Qian)
